Friends of Barwell School (FoBS)

The Friends of Barwell School (FoBS) group is committed to working towards improvement of the educational and social opportunities offered to the children who attend Barwell CE Junior School, and their families.

All staff and persons with parental responsibility for children who attend the school are automatically members of FoBS and are welcome to attend meetings, offer suggestions and assist with activities.

A small committee of Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Events Organisers meet in school on a regular basis with Mrs Davies, Miss Newman and Mrs Hughes to plan for future events. Please contact Mrs Jo Adcock via the school office if you would like to offer to help or ideas.

School projects funded by money raised by FoBS in recently years

The children and staff are very grateful to FoBS for funding the following projects recently:

£500 donation towards the Tyre Park Project to help fund the installation.

£500 towards stocking the library with texts to support topics in History and Geography across the school.

£350 to support the purchase of four 'Digital Blues'. These are hand held digital video cameras especially designed for children's use. They are real, but robust enough for use in school. The children will be able to shoot up to four minutes of movie and then add sound effects and animations before downloading it into the computer or into other projects such as Power Point displays.

£200 to support the purchase of an overlocking sewing machine which our Learning Support team has put to good use whilst making all the costumes for our recent production of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

£1000 donation to our playground activity trail project - towards a large piece of equipment for children to use in PE lessons and playtimes.

£1000 towards our shade canopy on the upper playground

£1000 towards additional seating beneath the field shade canopy

£500 towards additional outdoor play equipment for children

Currently FoBS are working towards supporting us in the development of the grounds to build a Peace Garden.

Events held during Autumn Term 2008

During Autumn Term 2008 FoBS were delighted to welcome some new members.

The Harvest Thanksgiving Assembly was once again made all the more memorable and enjoyable by the beautifully displayed array of fruit, vegetables, cans and packages. We are grateful that Mrs Adcock undertakes to organise this for us each year - it really is a very special contribution to our school calendar.

Our Bingo and Chips evening was a very popular event which FoBS will surely repeat during Spring Term. The attendance was excellent and Angelo's Chippery again provided excellent suppers. Lots of prizes and fast and furious calling from Mrs Adcock made this a fun event for all the family.

The FoBS Christmas Disco was again a huge success and very well attended. Children had a lot of fun and we were grateful for the support on the evening.

The FoBS Christmas Fair was another lovely event! A lot of organisation went into this by a dedicated band of parents and staff. On the afternoon of the event a number of FoBS members turned up to help out, and the people who came along to the event enjoyed the occasion. Our thanks to all who donated so generously to our Christmas Raffle, and to parents and friends for buying so many tickets.

We all wish to thank Mrs Adcock for the tireless work she does to organise FoBS events. It is a big undertaking and we are very grateful for her energy and commitment.

Plans for Spring Term 2008

FoBS are working to raise funds to help with the development of our Peace Garden this term.

A planning meeting will be held for early in this term.

Events expected for this term so far are:

Easter Egg Bingo and Fish and Chip Supper

Easter Disco

Dates for the above, and any other events to be announced

Support for the planning and running of all these events is needed - all parents who are interested, please call into school and ask for Jo Adcock - she'd be delighted to meet you!
