Friends of Barwell School (FoBS)

The Friends of Barwell School (FoBS) group is committed to working towards improvement of the educational and social opportunities offered to the children who attend Barwell CE Junior School, and their families.

All staff and persons with parental responsibility for children who attend the school are automatically members of FoBS and are welcome to attend meetings, offer suggestions and assist with activities.

A small committee of Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Events Organisers meet in school on a regular basis with Mrs Davies, Miss Newman and Mrs Hughes to plan for future events. Please contact Mrs Jo Adcock via the school office if you would like to offer to help or ideas.

Events held during School Year 2010 - 2011

During Autumn Term 2010 and Spring Term 2011 FoBS worked hard to support school through the following projects.

The Harvest Thanksgiving Assembly was once again made all the more memorable and enjoyable by the beautifully displayed array of fruit, vegetables, cans and packages. We are grateful that Mrs Adcock undertakes to organise this for us each year - it really is a very special contribution to our school calendar.

Our Bingo and Chips evenings were a very popular events which FoBS try to hold each term. The attendance is usually excellent and Chris' Chippy provides excellent suppers. Lots of prizes and fast and furious calling from Mrs Adcock makes these fun events for all the family. The Chocolate Bingo at easter was a 'hit' with young and not-so-young alike!

The FoBS Discos were again very successful and very well attended. Children have a lot of fun and we are grateful for the support on the evening. The donation of disco lights and the provision of the termly disco music from the Allcock Family is very much appreciated.

Our Summer Fair took place immediately after Sports Day again this year. there were slightly fewer stalls this year but we were happy that so many families supported this event. We have already begun to plan for Summer 2012 and would like to thank parents who have made suggestions and volunteered their support this early in the school year.

Our thanks to all who donated so generously to our Raffles, and to parents and friends for buying so many tickets.

We all wish to thank Mrs Adcock for the tireless work she does to organise FoBS events. It is a big undertaking and we are very grateful for her energy and commitment.

Plans for Autumn Term 2011

FoBS are working to raise funds to help with the provision of additional storage for our resources, and to help provide a spiritual area in the school library.

We are also looking into the possibility of joining Film Club, which would support FOBS in organising Film Nights in school - suitable for pupils of all ages.

Events expected for this term so far are:

Autumn Disco - Tuesday 4th October

Jewellery Party - Tuesday 25th October

Advent Disco - Wednesday 30th November

Christmas Fair - Friday 16th December

Support for the planning and running of all these events is needed - all parents who are interested, please call into school and ask for Jo Adcock - she'd be delighted to meet you!
