2006 - 2007 - Whole School News

On this page you can browse to see details of the various events in which the whole school have been involved.

This page will be added to regularly, so do continue to come along to have a look at what we are all involved in this year.

These activities take a lot of concentration

Fitness in School Day

In March 2007 Brian Hookway again visited school to help us keep fit whilst raising money for LOROS and for our school.

.

Every child has the chance to take part in 45 minutes fast paced training in agility and concentration using 'floor ladders' to complete a range of activities.

It was fast, furious fun which left many children exhausted, but happy to have worked very hard in aid of a good cause.

In total we raised over £700 which is divided between the school and LOROS.

Playtime Games

Following on from our major purchase of activity play equipment last term we have responded to the children's requests and replaced some of our worn out playground games and toys. The children thoroughly enjoy times when the weather is dry and we can get the skipping ropes, hoops and games out at lunchtime.

BREAST CANCER CARE - PINK WEEK

Once again, the children enthusiastically raised funds for Breast Cancer Care this year through a whole range of activities during our 'Pink Week' in October.

Again, Miss Peace was in charge of all the organisation, and children thought of some very good ideas to raise money.

The week ended in a special 'Pink Day' in which children were encouraged to wear pink (or red!) instead of their usual blue uniform. A donation of £1 per child helped to boos our total fundraising for this worthy cause to well over £400.

The photographs illustrate that we all had a lot of fun.

JUNIOR ROAD SAFETY OFFICERS

Four Junior Road safety Officers were elected at the start of term from pupils in Year 6.

The JRSOs role is to promote the awareness of road safety with all children in school. They are responsible for the upkeep of their notice board in the main corridor and for keeping us all updated with road safety news.

The JRSOs receive regular information from the Local Authority about road safety issues. They may run competitions and quizzes during the year on a road safety theme.

CHILDREN IN NEED

We once again enjoyed supporting Children in Need in school. We raised money by holding a 'Spotty Non-Uniform Day' - the photograph shows some of the results.

We also held some competitions and raffles and raised over £250 to send to the appeal.

NSPCC and ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

We marked the start of Anti-Bullying Week with a visit to the school from Debbie from the NSPCC.

Debbie came to speak with us about how sometimes children are bullied and abused in their own families and how the NSPCC worked to protect children. She brought 'Will Stop' to school to help the children realise that we can help the NSPCC to support families in need.

All the children were invited to take part in a sponsored SPELLATHON. This was very popular and we raised over £800 in total. Children enjoyed helping and earning themselves badges, wristbands and key-rings for their efforts.

THE CHRISTMOUSE TALE

We were delighted to invite a travelling theatre company into school in the week leading up to Christmas to present a very special production of 'The Christmouse Tale' to all children and staff.

In past years we have taken the children out of school to see live theatre at Christmas, but the cost of this has risen so much that we thought we'd try something different this year.

The production was delightful - a lovely story acted and sung brilliantly by two very talented young men. The children were enthralled - the scenery, story, costumes and props - it was all just so good.

We were able to fund this from money raised from our school productions. The children had a great afternoon, parents didn't have to pay and we didn't even have to leave the building!

HINCKLEY VOLUNTEER BUREAU TOY APPEAL

We were again pleased to help Mr and Mrs Crouch to gather Christmas presents for underprivileged children and young people in the Hinckley area.

This was our best year ever - the children and their families were extremely generous and a lot of very good quality gifts were donated.

A lot of children in the local area were much happier on Christmas morning due to our generosity and to the hard work and dedication of Mr and Mrs Crouch.

Year 6 learning about personal safety at 'The Warning Zone'

JUNIOR SONGS OF PRAISE

On Wednesday evening 7th February children, staff, families and the wider community joined together for a service of praise and worship in St Mary's Church, Barwell.

This was an opportunity for the children to celebrate Education Week in the Church calendar, and to showcase aspects of their learning. The service was hosted by Rev Arthur who welcomed everyone and led closing prayers.

The children chose their favourite songs and each year group presented some of the work they have been doing this year. Year 3 shared some of their preparations for 'The Rainboat' - their Easter production. Year 4 treated us to some French speaking and singing. Year 5 showed us a wide range of learning, including science, recorders, maths, and sport. Year 6 pupils shared their enjoyment and learning about personal safety following their recent visit to 'the Warning Zone'.

This was our fourth annual Junior Songs of Praise. It was exceptionally well attended and was a very enjoyable opportunity to celebrate and give thanks for the breadth and depth of the learning that goes on in our school.
