Year 4 Residential Visit to Beaumanor Park

.

Towards the end of Spring Term pupils in Year 4 visited Beaumanor Hall and Park for two days as part of their Science and Maths studies.

The children had a fantastic time doing Maths challenges and getting involved in activities such as pond dipping and bridge building.

We were all very fortunate to be able to dine in the splendour of Beaumanor Hall itself -  a beautiful stately home of great luxury - even if it was sausage and chips on the menu!

The evening activity was a camp fire in the woods. Fortunately the weather was very kind throughout - we had sunny days and a warm night.

Behaviour was excellent throughout our stay - we were again complemented on the conduct of the children.

Thanks to Mrs Foulkes and Mrs Williamson for their help in organising and running this vist, and to all other staff who accompanied the children.

Year 3 Easter Performance of 'The Rainboat'

.

Wow - just when we thought we couldn't get any better - we just did! What a fantastic production of the story of Noah's Ark!

The children of Year 3 thoroughly excelled themselves in this event. Through drama, song and dance they performed wonderfully in front of packed audiences on two afternoons and two evenings.

The children from Year 2 at Barwell Infant School attended the dress rehearsal, and families and friends made up the other audiences.

Friends of Barwell School supported the event by selling refreshments and organising the raffle to raise funds for the school.

Thanks must go to Mrs Sargeant and Mrs Blackburn for the scripts, choreography and choral work, and to our army of fantastic support staff for backdrops, costumes and props - what would we ever do without you?

Year 3 Remembrance Day Assembly

Children in 3/4CB led a lovely whole school assembly on Friday 10th November in which they reminded us all about why we have a special Remembrance Day on the Sunday closest to 11th November each year.

Families and friends of pupils taking part came along to support and to enjoy seeing the children take their parts.

We again sold poppies in school this year and raised a substantial sum in support of the British Legion.

Thanks to Mrs Colloby and Mrs Blackburn and support staff for organising this assembly with the children.

Year 3 Advent Assembly

Children in 3S had the task of starting our Christmas celebrations with their Advent Assembly for the whole school on Friday 1st December. Lots of friends and family members came along to support and made this a really special occasion.

The children told us all about the meaning of advent and helped us to think about ways in which we might remember the true Christian meaning of Christmas.

The acting was superb, and the angel dancers were delightful.

Thanks to Mrs Sargeant and her support staff helpers for organising this assembly with the children.

Year 4 Nativity

It was Year 4's turn again to prepare and present our Nativity services in St Mary's Church, Barwell.

Both classes worked well together to produce a lovely service which was presented in the church on four separate occasions so that everyone who wanted to come could do so.

This year children thought about the symbols and traditions of Christmas. Bible readings, prayers and poems were chosen by the children and the Year 4 choir sang their favourite carols. Carols were also sung by the congregation.

Miss Knights, Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Williamson worked hard with support staff to ensure that the event was a success. Thanks are also due to Reverend Arthur who introduced each service and said final prayers.

The money donated through retiring collections has been divided between St Mary's Church and the charity 'Rainbow Africa' with whom we have long-standing links.

Year 3 and Year 4 Swimming Sessions

Pupils in Year 4 enjoyed a series of ten swimming lessons during Autumn Term. All children worked hard and made progress.

Certificates were awarded to all children at various grades at our end of Autumn Term assembly.

Year 3 pupils began swimming in Summer Term 2007. Despite there being a large number of total non-swimmers in this group (some of whom had never been to a swimming pool) the group are making fantastic progress.

Thanks to all who help with swimming, but particularly to the governors who turn up voluntarily each week to accompany the children and to oversee the safety of the boys in particular.
